My First Piece of Vintage Furniture

Vintage furniture shopping can be a downright headache. Online shopping can be a pain, as many items require to be picked up, so that can put you out of the running for some great interstate pieces. Local antique stores have exorbitant prices, and much of what is in antique stores isn't the era I am looking for anyway.

So, when I stumbled upon this beauty at a garage sale a street or two away from my parents place, for the mere price of $12 - yes, $12! - I snapped it up right away. They lovely couple at the house who owned a 4WD even offered to deliver it for us for an extra $3.

Not sure how I feel about the yellow painted interior. What do you think?

Usually I find garage sales a big waste of time, but this has rekindled my faith in them, and I look forward to nabbing some more bargains in the future.

My First Vintage Buy

While I've got the time, I thought it best to do as many posts as I can before I don't post for a few weeks!

This next vintage purchase was my first, and I still love it just as much as I did when I first bought it. This one cost me $30. Judging by the style and the label, this skirt seems to be circa 1960s.

Such a teeny waist, I often have to undo the top button whilst I'm sitting!

This skirt is in such great condition for its age. One of my favourite things about it is the care label, which reads: wash by hand in lukewarm water or dry clean. I like this because the skirt is 100% cotton, so it is very easily machine washable! Sadly, the store I bought it from is no longer around - and I can't remember the name of it! But it was on Ebenezer Place, which still has some great little stores on it, such as DAS hair (hair salon AND clothing store!), Midwest Trader and Old Midwest.

My Wedding Dress

Hello, and welcome to my very first blog! If you've read my about me, you'll have learnt that I'm a vintage lovin' lady from Adelaide. In this blog, I hope to nab some great vintage bargains and tell you all about them and where I got them.

Let's get straight into it with the piece that inspired me to start this blog in the first place: My Wedding Dress!

This beautiful dress cost me $50. That's right, fifty dollars. My best friend (also my matron of honour) and I decided to visit the Gilles Street Market in the CBD of Adelaide. We walked around for a while before my MOH spotted this beauty. Now, as you can see from the first image above, it's not a dress that immediately catches your eye while it's on the hanger. But luckily for me my MOH convinced me to try it on. And even though it was 4 sizes too big at the time, I instantly fell in love. Another $50 get the dress altered by the same lovely lady who was making my bridesmaids' dresses, then $75 to get it dry-cleaned and my dream dress was complete.

I think this find proves that you can't judge a book by its cover, and that even if the item you try on is too big, there are ways around that if you love it enough.
